The XC 40 is a marathon cross country bike race that takes riders on a perimeter lap encompassing McDowell Mountain Regional Park. This epic loop is 99% singletrack that works its way in and out of washes, up and over small ridges with big cacti everywhere.

The 40 mile+ category (actually its 43 miles to keep you honest) lap includes nearly all of the Competitive Loops, Pemberton Trail, part of Scenic, Cinch, Escondido, Delsie, Granite, Bluff, Coachwhip, and Dixie Mine. The Fat Tire 40 is a one lap race, featuring desert single track and about 3,000 feet of climbing.

Riders for the 40 mile+ and 40k will be staged based on category. All XC starts will begin at the Competitive Track. Waves will be separated by approximately 10 minutes. Promoter reserves the right to adjust categories, start times etc for the safety of the riders.

Awards are given 3 deep in all categories.
There will be two aid stations on the 40 Mile, one aid station for the 40Km (noted on course map). We will have Hammer product, coke, water, oranges and bananas, and rad people at the aid station.

It is expected that all courses will be clear after 5.5hrs, this is historically in line with the last finisher – this is for safety and staffing.
Awards – each day the top 3 of each event, and each category will be awarded on the podium.
Leader presentation – each day the overall leader of each category in the Cactus Cup, and the Mini Cup will be recognized.
Reminder – Participants may enter any combination of the individual events or choose to enter 3 days of racing in either the Cactus Cup Stage Race or the Mini stage race.
